"I remember being nine and living at Cape Kennedy, Florida where my father worked in the space program and you could drive on the beach and not see anything for miles. I grew up watching “Flipper“, and skate boarding with my buddy John, and loving the huge sky that was blue every day except for the afternoon thunderstorm that would cool everything for a few minutes. The smell of the salty air and sun on my skin made a lasting impression. And then we moved. I was twelve.
My father was transferred to upstate New York where I spent the next sixteen years. I learned to love New York because I’m adaptable that way, but I always missed the salt air (especially while I was shoveling snow). I married my best friend Lisa shortly after leaving a musical career with a rock and roll band and started working with my parents building an Art supplies/Picture framing business. We had our daughter Leah, and then our son Ryan. And then we found Wilmington, NC.
So like the "Clampetts" we loaded up the truck and moved to Wilmington, NC. That was 1985 and for the last twenty some years Lisa and I are breathing the salt air and thanking God everyday that we live in such a beautiful place.

Born in Akron Ohio in 1957, Doug has been living in Wilmington with his wife Lisa and children since 1985. His love for this coastal region has inspired many photographs that capture a quiet, contemplative view of the Wilmington area. Self taught over the years, Doug has concentrated on traditional Black and White “film” photography, hand-printing on fiber papers in the Ansel Adams tradition. He currently prints giclee’s of his work digitally, using Ultra Chrome pigmented inks. Dougs work can be found in galleries, gift shops, office buildings and private homes as well as television and movie sets. His collection can also be found at the Townhouse Art & Frame Center in Wilmington.
